Deep sea rafting

Startside » Activities » Deep sea rafting

One of the highlights of the region is an expedition in rafting boats along the wildest, uninhabited part of the island Moskenes. We have several rafting boats at our disposal which carry up to 12 persons each. Using it as a means of transport, the visitors will see the farthest and the wildest spots of the Lofoten.  The way leads to the southern end of the island, and on the way the travellers will cross the famous and dangerous current and whirlpools of Moskstraumen. For lunch we stop at Hell (“hell”). It is a settlement abandoned in the early fifties, which its inhabitants left taking all their possessions, including their houses. Today their descendants live in the villages situated on the “Inner coast” of the MoskenesIsland. The culminating point of the trip is the visit to the Refsvikhula cave, hidden on the “Outer side” of the Lofoten. The cave reaches 115 m of depth underground, while its roof is as high as 50 m above its floor. The red cave paintings representing human figures found there have been dated as early as 1000 B.C. On the way back we will pass by the locations of bird colonies, among them cormorants, black and common guillemots. You will also see there the sea eagles and seals.
