Fishing by boat

The western part of the Lofoten is an angler’s paradise, especially from March to May, when the weather is more stable, and in the Vestfjord there is still much spawning codfish. A passionate angler may choose to rent a boat – these are available in several types, differing in size and engine capacity. For fishing fans there is nothing better than first catching fish weighing several kilograms and then spending an evening in a circle of friends, enjoying this prize – cooked, fried, or grilled.

We provide full infrastructure necessary to make successful catches.
Small open boats are most useful in the Reinefjord area and in the vicinity of Hamnøy. They are 15-17 ft long and have 10-15 HP motors, no extra equipment.
For the season 2012 we are planning to offer our guests bigger boats Smartliner 21 equipped with fishfinder and GPS. For more information please contact us by e-mail.

The servicing building offers a roofed fish-cleaning area with running water, fishing gear storage space, freezers for food and fish as well as traditional fish boxes. Styrofoam containers for transporting fish can be bought on the spot. In the reception, you will also find a bathymetrical chart of the area, information on fishing grounds and guidelines regarding the minimum allowed sizes for all fish species. Life jackets may be rented for free.

Starting from 1 May 2010, people who want to rent a motor boat over 25 HP or bigger than 25 ft (8 m) are required to have a motorboat licence. This refers to all persons born after 01.01.1980, however, for safety reasons, we require all our clients to have a motorboat licence or sailing experience.

The waters in Lofoten are characterised by big discrepancies of flows, strong sea currents, dangerous skerries and unpredictable weather with strong winds. On every boat, there is only one person in charge, this person signs the agreement, takes responsibility for the boat and operates it. For safety reasons, this person must not operate the boat under the influence of any intoxicants.

It is advisable to buy an own contribution waiver insurance in case of boat damage. Own contribution amounts to NOK 10,000 for bigger boats and NOK 5,000 for other boats. Eliassen Rorbuer reserves the right not to rent a boat to people without appropriate qualifications or experience.
