Arctic surfing

Visiting Unstad, a small settlement on the Vestvågøy Island is an unforgettable experience. The village is surrounded by mountains on three sides, opening in a bay towards North, which makes it a perfect place for surfing. The bay is uniquely situated, while the never-stopping wind creates waves both for experienced and beginner surfers. A huge beach is an ideal resting place. The tiny Unstad had been cut off from the world until 1987, when a tunnel was driven through the mountains, becoming the village’s gate to the world. The spirit of entrepreneurship pervades among the young generation of islanders, who with friends and surfing fans from the whole Scandinavia organises numerous surfing courses. The camping site in Unstad provides equipment, accommodation and food.
